Hooked on a Feeling

Central Idea: In life and art, people use their bodies to express how they feel

Been doing taking a lot of photos this year and incorporating it into the kids' art.  They'll never give the art teacher unlimited access to a color printer again!

I found this idea over here. Surfing camp friend's cousin's blog.  Gotta love those facebook connections.

Basically the first step was taking a cray pas for a walk, making a doodle around the page.  They could choose five spaces to color in the doodle, and then draw whatever they wanted around it.  The rest was painted with watercolor.

Next I had them act out an emotion to photograph which would be the title of their painting.  "I am happy!" "I am angry!" etc etc. They could place their photos wherever they chose.

With older children I would do more planning-- they would be able to decide the emotion before they started painting and use colors and drawings based on that.  However, in my experience, kindergartners very much live in the moment-- so a dark and moody painting painted on Monday would be very limiting for a super happy artist on Wednesday.
