Art with leaves: printmaking and wax resist
The Grade 1 Artists are hard at work in a Sharing the Planet Unit that explores the interdepence of humans and plants. We made these mixed media pieces by using masking tape on watercolor paper to divide it up into spaces. Next we made some leaf rubbings in each space using crayons. Liquid watercolor was up next, they figured out which colors really made their leaf rubbings pop.
I removed the tape for them when everything was dry to minimize ripping-- then the kids got to use hone their printmaking skills with leaves from the playground. I can't wait to mount them on black paper!
These are gorgeous!!! Great job! :)
ReplyDeleteWow, fabulous!! I love the layers. The colors are so rich and bright; was the printing done with tempera or printing inks or what?
ReplyDeletethanks guys, the printing was done with florescent printing ink-- half empty jars found in a cupboard from the old art teacher from 2 years ago-- wish I had ordered more, they're so pretty!
ReplyDeleteI always see leaf prints in traditional warm/fall colors. These are so vibrant!! Thanks for posting.
ReplyDeleteThese are beautiful!
ReplyDeleteThese are gorgeous. The KG's next unit will be sharing the planet (Living things change through natural cycles) and the concepts are: Change and Connection
ReplyDeleteAny ideas what art forms/ techniques I can introduce to the kinders from these angles?
