Vejicante Masks

Vejicante!! This project was from a few years back and I can't wait to make them again.  All the masks started very simply--one paper mached balloon cut in half.  The paper mache bit was very strong (4+ layers of construction paper) to accommodate all the fun embellishments.

The kids had a great time showing these off and dancing to  Puerto Rican music at an assembly.

  1. Puerto rico's "discovery" day is sometime in November I think. Totally awesome. I tried this my first year teaching and so many didn't work out. I abandoned the 3d paper mâché version. I flunked paper mâché . The vejigante masks look amazing!

  2. thanks for checking out the blog APG! masks took a really long time-- probably 5-6 weeks with hour long classes weekly and some of the really keen kids came in during lunch to work on them. not brave enough to do papier mache at my new school yet...
