Warm and Cool Insects

The kids got to choose an insect and draw it as realistically as possible-- I had lots of photos scattered all over the tables.  Once they made a line drawing that they liked, they taped carbon paper to the back of it and copied their little critter all over the paper.

They then made lines in the background in whatever pattern they wanted--the simplistic way to add color would be to choose either warm or cool for the background and then warm or cool for the insects.  Some of the 5th graders wanted to take it up a notch and flip warm/cool every time they passed over a line, that came out well too. :)
